Special Events: Ring Lake Ranch

Margaret was invited to be the guest lecturer for a two-week session this August at Ring Lake Ranch in the Wind River mountains, close to the Wind River Reservation. Twenty-four people came from around the country to hear Margaret talk on writing about the Arapahos and on her experiences on the reservation.

Ring Lake Ranch is a dude ranch, but not the typical dude ranch. There’s hiking, riding, fishing—all that you would expect—and there is much more. Each session features a guest speaker who is an authority on an interesting subject. This summer, the lectures ranged from biblical archeology to ecology and economics.

Everyone at Margaret’s session had read at least one of the novels in her series, and many had read all of the novels, which made for lively and interesting discussions.

It wasn’t all work, Margaret says. She and her husband, George, got in a lot of hiking, horseback riding and fishing in the stillness of the Wyoming wilderness, one of the most beautiful places on the earth.
